Staff Interview] A Burger Shop Staff in His Fourth Year with the Company Talks about "The Job Here That Changed Me

For this interview, we asked Mr. Doman, a high school graduate and four-year employee of Awajishima Burger Awajishima Onion Kitchen, about his approach to his job and his thoughts.

When does anxiety become fun?

Q. First of all, please tell us why you joined the company.

When I was in high school, I majored in cooking and was thinking about getting a job in the restaurant industry. That was when I found our company's website and thought it looked really pop and fun. I decided to take the entrance exam as part of that process, and when I opened the door to the venue on the day of the interview exam, the atmosphere was the same as on the website. I remember being surprised at how friendly and fun the interview test was.

Q: After joining the company, you were assigned to the "Awajishima Burger Awajishima Onion Kitchen," the main store.

I had never had a part-time job and was anxious about working for the first time in my life. I was particularly worried about whether I would be able to handle customer service and cash register operations. But once I started working, I found that the bosses and senior staff were cheerful and kind, and before I knew it, my anxiety turned into enjoyment.

One of Mr. Michima's recommended burgers, the "Awajishima Onion Gratin Burger.

Q: Is there anything that your bosses or senior staff members have said to you that has stayed with you?

It's okay to fail! Let's make the most of it next time!" These words from my supervisor made my anxiety disappear. These words were one of the reasons for my growth.

Awareness of "I am changing

Q: So, where do you feel you have grown the most, Mr. Michimitsu?

After all, it is communication.
I was shy, but as I continued to work, I became able to relate not only to the staff but also to customers. I am still happy when I hear "It was delicious" or "Thank you. I also realized the importance of taking action with the awareness that I have to change myself.

The scene of preparing

That's wonderful. Please tell us about your goals for your future work.

Personnel changes, new store openings, etc., will be the next step for veterans and the next place of work will be another. Furthermore, I will be in a position to teach them how to do their jobs, so I feel I have to be firm. I am a little anxious (laughs). Also, it is difficult to forecast sales and order ingredients, but I want to be able to order smoothly.

Q: Finally, what would you say to someone who was wondering whether or not to work here if you saw them or asked them for advice?

I would like to encourage them to work together with us because it is okay to make mistakes and all staff members are kind and fun to work with.

That's a nice comment that makes me want to work with you. Thank you very much.

In the end, "I am happy and fulfilled every day! said Mr. Michimitsu with a smile. He is starting his fifth year of growth, enjoying his work without fear of failure!
